We’re not complaining. Apart from the fairly well known possible cardio-vascular benefits of red wine, it has apparently been shown that moderate boozing can have psychological benefits.

Studies have shown that a moderate intake of alcohol is effective at reducing stress, and “increase overall affective expression, happiness, euphoria, conviviality and pleasant and carefree feelings.” Gee, who’d have believed that?

Low alcohol doses have also been found to improve cognitive performance in both problem-solving and memory.

Both heavy drinkers and abstainers reportedly have higher rates of clinical depression than moderate drinkers.

Alcohol in moderate doses has also been effective in the treatment of geropsychiatric problems.

So yes, apparently the right solution next time you’re stressed and bummed out is in fact to crack open that bottle and just say “fuck it”.

Cheers!
